What Can Be Measured Can Be Managed

Mark Graham Brown of Business Finance Magazine recently shared the story of Sears’ struggle with culture change back in 1996. The company was struggling with poor work culture, so they manufactured some new values and put together a Cultural Renewal Training session. Then, they decided to measure cultural change based on the percentage of employees who attended the session. Needless to say, the ploy didn’t work.

Transforming work culture can be an incredibly tough task, particularly without any outside help. Seeing issues from the inside can be nearly impossible. Quite often, an outside perspective helps supervisors get a better understanding of what their employees are truly experiencing; both what is working and what’s not. Business culture change is rarely easy to achieve, but it’s worth the effort. A recent study by Hay Group found that organizations with strong work culture outperform peer organizations by more than 400%.

Think about what a 400% boost in your company’s output would do for your business.

At Level Up Leadership, we have a simple and effective way for determining the strengths and weaknesses of your current company culture. We use an anonymous system to ask your employees three things. Through this system, we find out:

what personal values are most important to them,

what values best describe the current culture of your business,

and what values they would most like to see exemplified in your business.

We get right to the root of the question by asking your employees directly in a manner that is discreet and secure. Employees feel free to speak honestly while providing information that is helpful and constructive. In the end, you’re left with a complete report regarding the current state of your company culture, including a Business Score Card which provides the overall results of your company survey.
