Happy New Year from the Level Up Leadership team! We always look forward to this time of year as it presents the chance to set some new goals and resolutions. It’s important that you set resolutions for your team, as well as for yourself, as a leader. Resolutions are a great way to keep yourself accountable throughout the year, and will push you and your team to hit and/or exceed your goals. Not sure where to start?
Here are 5 New Year’s resolutions that every leader should consider for 2021:
Have Better Communication
The first resolution you should consider for 2021 is working on having better and more effective communication with the members of your team. Forming positive relationships with your team and allowing them to openly communicate their ideas and concerns is vital to a healthy workplace culture. Work on bettering your communication in the office by holding monthly one-on-one meetings with each member of your team, so that they can ask questions, bring up any concerns they may be having, and share their ideas.
Start an Employee Recognition Program
People really enjoy being noticed for their hard work and dedication in the workplace, which is why you should consider putting an employee recognition program into place as one of your New Year’s resolutions for 2021. In fact, according to HR Technologist, 40% of employed Americans would put more energy into their work if they were recognized more often. One simple way that you can begin to integrate an employee recognition program is to simply give a shoutout to employees who meet their goals during your next company Zoom meeting.
Check In On Your Team More Frequently
During these times of uncertainty, your team members may be struggling to find a healthy balance when it comes to their work and personal lives. This is why it’s important that you check in on your team more frequently throughout the workweek. Try and make it a routine for you to send an email to each of your employees and ask them how they’re doing. You may be surprised to find that some of your team members are probably struggling to keep up with their work, and could use some help.
Write Down and Discuss Your Goals
The next resolution you consider for 2021 is to write down your personal leadership goals as well as the goals that you set for your team, and then proceed to openly share them. Not only will writing down your goals and sharing them with your team members keep you all accountable, but it will also motivate you to work harder. Furthermore, it was found that you’re 42% more likely to achieve your goals and dreams, simply by writing them down on a regular basis, according to HuffPost. The easiest way to write down and share your goals is to type out an email with your personal leadership and company goals, and send that email to everyone on your team.
